ABOUT NIKI:
Hello there~. Nice to meet'cha, I'm Niki Shiina from Crazy:B. I'm an idol at CosPro. ...But to be honest, I'm not cut out to be an idol at all. I became an idol 'cause of people like Rinne-kun's honeyed words, but I'm always hungry...! Everyone knows singing and dancing burns calories, right? And I'm nooo good at all when I'm hungry. I would've been better off bein' a chef in a kitchen instead of this~. So, 'cause of that, I hope to workin with you in moderation.
How would I even begin to explain Niki Shiina... I could say that Niki is a member of Crazy:B and a chef in Café Cinnamon. I could say that he is the most charming loveable silly guy, and that his nuis always look like there is not a thought behind those embroidered eyes. I could say that he is the haha funny always hungry guy. But that doesn't really cover it, does it?
Niki is an icredibly kind person. He is simultaneously a grounding presence and a bit of a weirdo, who sometimes doesn't completely understand others and is not completely understoof himself
because of how much of his brain is dedicated to thinking about food. He cares a lot about people around him soo much. He is the best character ever
But you cannot begin to meaningfully discus Niki's character without taking into account his disability and his backstory, as those affect the way he views himself and interacti with others a lot. Niki Shiina was born with a health condition which causes him to have an extremely high metabolism and struggle with absorbing nutrients. Said affliction is genuinely potentialy deadly (see Hot Limit where Niki. almost starves to death. like. it is pretty serious) and results in Niki having a very much "I should just be happy I'm lucky enough to be alive" mindset. He doesn't want to inconvenience people, he doesn't consider himself to be much of value as a person, he doesnt have any grandiose wishes for the future!! because he sees being able to live and eat tasty food every day as something he should be grateful for!! For him that's not basic human rights, he had to struggle for it!!
Niki's self worth issues get only exacerbated by the fact that his parent ultimately left him to live alone as a child following a scandalous cancellation of their cooking show. Yes, Niki offered to stay himself to avoid completely uprooting his entire life (which yeah. makes sense as a child would see moving to another country as too drastic of a change), but there is something to say about his father and mother so readily leaving their son behind... Why would Niki himself he's someone worth worrying over, if not even his parents seemed to do so?
It is important to also bring up Niki's relationship with Rinne. I won't be getting too into it here (because otherwise I will NOT shut up ever), but Rinne is clearly a special person in Niki's life. They met each other as teenagers, basically saved each others lives and stuck together since. Rinne convinced Niki to become an idol, - twice, even, given that the two used to perform as a duo, - in hopes of it raising his self esteem. Rinne tries to get Niki to marry him, all so Niki can allow himself to be cared for (they would be a family in that case, after all). Rinne is ready to dedicate his entire life just to make Niki happy. Niki, who doesn't think much of himself, doesn't have to worry about being a bother to Rinne (which is a reason Rinne seems to annoy or rile up Niki...). Love is real idk.
WHY DO I LOVE NIKI?
Well, there's a lot of reasons... Before getting deeper into the stories, I admit, I did not care much for Crazy:B in general; after finishing Main Story and Hot Limit, however, I got attached to Niki hardd! His design is very fun, yes (oooh his ponytail beloved), and his interactions with everyone are always great to watch, but what grabbed me the most were his personality and story. Not to be that guy (I'm lying. I am that guy.) but Niki is just like me fr fr. With the Recipes page on my websight being the only one that actually has content, and me reading the question 'How are you doing?' as 'What did you cook today?' half the time, I share his brand of food autism. Food for me is my main way of showing affection to people - cooking it, eating it together, even just sharing recipes... One time I woke up at 5am on a Sunday just to meet up with a Tumblr mutual i have talked to in DMs exactly one time and give him homemade cookies.
As for how I relate to Niki's backstory... I joke about it a lot, but our living situations are identical. To a ridiculous degree. My parents had to leave the country, - and me, - and are now travelling all over the world, while I live alone (or, er, lived, since my QPP is now also here. and calls me her wife. that is so Rinne-coded of her, huh). Actually, cooking was my main way of trying to cope with depression caused by my sudden loneliness. Seeing a character who experienced similar things really made me feel understood, and for that I am forever grateful to Niki.

What is post apocalypse AU? Exactly what is says on the tin! Zombie virus outbreak results in the world falling in shambles. Niki, despite being infected, turns out to be a special case - it has been a while since he was infected, but his condition seem to progress much slower than normally, and he remains fully conscious. Nonetheless, time is running out, so he and Rinne (intent on sticking my Niki's side no matter what) set off to find a cure! Along the way they meet HiMERU and Kohaku, who end up joining them :D

LET'S DISCUSS RINNIKI
I have brought up Rinne and how I think Niki's relationship with him are important to understanding the guy before. So I am just going to brainrot all over here about them here.
Rinniki's entire story starts with them literally. Saving each other as teenagers (Niki feeeding Rinne and bringing him to his appartment, Rinne going against his pride etc to beg the neighbours for food to feed Niki back). But for years after they had continued saving each other, in small and big ways, just out of desire to care for each other. Niki debuted with Rinne as a part of an idol duo, even if idol industry destroyed his father's career, because it was important to Rinne, becasue being an idol was his dream. In Endless Vide (it is not a dream, it is real to me) Rinne is willing to become a villain, to go to any length to avenge Niki after his death. They are literally so in love etc etc.
Also. Can we talk about the exchange from Hot Limit where Niki said he wanted to kiss Rinne, but Rinne did not let him becasue they can't kiss before marriage?? Or the uh. uncencored Night Club Rinne line about Niki stripping for him.?? They are insane. I am insane. Love is real. They literally share an appartment and will be the first gay couple to be officially married in Japan the second they can.
Conclusion is, shoutout to Rinniki. For being real.
